Two different things
This page states two separate things, and keeping them apart matters more than anything else here.
The first is the licence of each text. That is a fact about the translation, and we do not get to choose it: some of these texts are in the public domain and some are ours.
The second is the terms of our distribution service — that you need a free account to download from us, and that we record which account took which file. Those apply to every download from this site, whatever the text. They are a condition of using our service, and they can never restrict a text that is free. A public-domain module obtained anywhere else is bound by nothing on this page.
The licence of each text
| Text | Licence of the text | Who holds it |
|---|---|---|
| NB2026 — Norwegian Bible 2026 | Copyrighted; free non-commercial distribution | Publifye AS |
| Tamil Bible 1868 | Public domain | Nobody — the text is free. Edition prepared by Publifye AS. |
| Telugu Bible 1880 | Public domain | Nobody — the text is free. Edition prepared by Publifye AS. |
We claim no copyright in the Tamil 1868 and Telugu 1880 texts and place no restriction on them. What we did was prepare this digital edition — the typing, the checking, the module files — and that is all we claim. Any module we publish states its own licence in its About or Details field, and a public-domain one says there so in as many words.
What you may do
With any module on this page you may:
- Read it, personally and in your household, on as many of your own devices as you like.
- Use it in a congregation — in preaching, teaching, study groups and Bible classes.
- Use it for academic and scholarly work, and quote from it as you would any Bible.
- Pass the module file on, unmodified, to anyone you like — a friend, a class, a congregation.
With the public-domain texts you may also do anything else at all, including modifying them and selling them. That is what public domain means, and nothing on this page changes it.
What you may not do with NB2026
NB2026 is our own translation, and it is the one text here we do restrict. Without written permission from us you may not:
- Use it commercially, in any form.
- Sell it, or sell a copy of it, at any price.
- Include it in a paid product, a paid app, or anything behind a paywall or a subscription.
- Redistribute a modified text under the same name.
Permission is not hard to get and it is often given. Ask: post@publifye.com.
Our distribution service
To download a module from us you need a free Tringine account, and you accept these terms once before your first download. Each download is recorded against your account, with the file and the time. We do this so that a personal repository address can be issued to you and withdrawn if it is misused, and so that we can reach you if a text is corrected. Your personal repository address is yours alone — it identifies you to us on every fetch your Bible app makes.
None of this is a restriction on the texts. It is how this service is run, and it applies equally to the public-domain modules, whose texts you remain entirely free to obtain and use anywhere else.
No warranty
These modules are given free of charge and are provided as is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We prepare them carefully and we correct what we find, but we do not warrant that a text is free of error, that it will suit any particular purpose, or that this service will be available at any given moment. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from their use.
If you find an error in a text, please tell us. That is worth more to us than a disclaimer.
Law and contact
These terms are governed by Norwegian law, with the Oslo District Court as the venue for any dispute.
